History Uncorked: We Are Puget Sound, understanding and supporting Tribal Treaty Rights

  • Kitsap History Museum 280 4th Street Bremerton, WA, 98337 United States (map)

Join us for a special History UnCorked evening with two inspirational and origianl contributor to We Are Puget Sound, the book that inspired our current photo exhibit. In conversation with the themes of the exhibit, Suquamish Tribal Council Vice Chairman Josh Bagley and Dr. Mindy Roberts, Puget Sound Partnership Executive Director and co-author of We Are Puget Sound book, will explore the people, places, and living waters that shape life in the Salish Sea. Through story and reflection, discover how local voices deepen our connection to this extraordinary region—and why its future depends on all of us.

Our speakers will focus on understanding and supporting Tribal Treaty Rights and connecting the audience members to the treaties of the 1850s that established critical protections for salmon and for people. These protections include salmon’s access to high-quality habitat for spawning. Supporting tribal treaty rights means understanding the cultural relevance of salmon to tribes. Greater access to habitat means more salmon for everyone. And then urging people to learn more about the traditional lands of the Suquamish Tribe that they live on and occupy
